5 Signs Your Car Needs an Alignment: Don't Ignore These Red Flags!

July 10, 2023

Have you ever experienced your car pulling to one side or felt a subtle vibration in the steering wheel? These could be signs that your car needs alignment. Proper wheel alignment is essential for optimal handling, tire wear, and overall vehicle performance. In this post, we share five common signs that indicate your vehicle’s wheels are misaligned. By learning to recognize these red flags, you can address alignment issues before they turn into a more expensive repair.

Car Pulling to One Side:

One of the most noticeable signs of misalignment is when your car pulls to the left or right while driving straight. This pulling sensation occurs because the wheels are not aligned, causing uneven tire wear. If you release your grip on the steering wheel and notice your car drifting to one side, it's time to have your alignment checked.

Uneven Tire Wear:

Take a moment to inspect the tread on your tires. Uneven wear patterns, such as excessive wear on the inner or outer edges, are likely due to misalignment. Improper alignment puts uneven pressure on the tires, causing them to wear out prematurely. Regularly checking your tire wear pattern can help you identify alignment issues before they become more severe.

Shaking Steering Wheel:

Misalignment may cause a vibrating or shaking sensation in the steering wheel. A severe misalignment may produce stronger vibrations. If you notice strange behavior from your steering wheel, especially at higher speeds, it's crucial to have your alignment inspected to prevent further damage to your vehicle.

Crooked Steering Wheel:

While driving on a level road, take a glance at your steering wheel. Does it look off-center? A steering wheel positioned to the left or right when the car is moving straight indicates an alignment issue. A crooked steering wheel suggests that your wheels are not aligned symmetrically, and professional alignment service is necessary to restore balance.

Excessive Tire Squealing:

Have you noticed a screeching or squealing sound coming from your tires during turns? This noise, often accompanied by a sensation of resistance, can be an indication of misaligned wheels. Misalignment causes tires to scrub against the road rather than roll smoothly, leading to increased friction and noise. Addressing alignment promptly can help prevent unnecessary tire damage and extend their lifespan.

Correct wheel alignment is essential for your vehicle's safety and performance. Pay attention to warning signs - car pulling to one side, uneven tire wear, vibrations in the steering wheel, a crooked steering wheel, and excessive tire squealing - and identify potential alignment issues early on. If you notice any of these signs, don't delay in visiting a professional mechanic.
